Mississippi River - Genoa - Clements Fishing Barge

Fishing was spotty over the weekend. There were some nice walleye caught, a few released already and some sauger were moving in, but one day they would bite in the morning and the next day they would bite in the afternoon. The color of jig didn't seem to make a big difference yet, as most everyone was trying something different. On Monday the fishing seemed to improve with a lot of limits going off the float in the afternoon, but on Tuesday it was harder fishing again. It was very tough to catch a fish without a minnow on your lure. Be sure to bring plenty of minnows. The water level has been pretty steady as of late, it even has dropped the last couple of days. Needs to warm up some more, but the nice weather coming up should help that a lot. Some answers to question that was asked in the shop, how many minnows in a scoop? The scoop that we use in Captain Hook's has about 32 to 36 minnows in the regular minnows, if you get the bigger minnows, the count drops to 26 to 30 because of the size. How many scoops should a person get? This time of year when the fish are really using bait, I would get at least 2 scoops per person, an extra one thrown in doesn't hurt either, but check the water during the day, if you don't have a live well.

Good Fishing
